Design
To design each piece of custom jewelry, we use state-of-the-art 3D modeling technology. The base application is called Rhino and the jewelry software plug-in is called Matrix.
Matrix is a very powerful software plug-in. It provides our designers with complete quality control over every aspect of your design. Evey row of diamonds is evenly spaced; all diamond tables are level; each prong is spaced and sized equally; and all metal thicknesses are a "safe" thickness. Matrix is designed to create perfection.
The very first step in any 3D ring design is the placement of the "finger rail" and the center diamond.
The "finger rail" is a circular curve that represents the client's finger size. The entire design is created around this curve to ensure maximum comfort and proportional style. If a ring is originally designed for a size 7 finger and then sized to a 5, the result will be a ring that has completely different curves and proportion (see "Sizing").
The same is true for the center stone. Many jewelers will sell a commercial ring and simply change the head to accommodate a different size stone. Again, this will lead to a ring that looks much different than it originally did. If the stone becomes smaller, it could bring aspects of the ring into view that were meant to be hidden beneath the diamond. If the stone becomes larger, it could hide details that were originally meant to be seen.
Matrix allows us to create pieces from scratch that are meant for your finger and your diamond. The difference in beauty and satisfaction is immeasurable.
The ultimate benefit in using Matrix, however, is the ability to send proofs to our clients. Instead of placing a custom order and
hoping you communicated your desires clearly, you can have your hands in on the design process and make the little adjustments that create a huge overall difference. We send proofs many different ways: simple snapshots of the Matrix design; interactive 360 degree view; high quality render (see "Render"); or wax prototype (see "Wax Molds").
