Emeralds
Emerald, Greek for 'green stone,' vary in shades of green - the most desirable being deep green. Stones may be transparent to opaque. Only the finest qualities are transparent.

Frequently, emeralds are clouded by inclusions, such as liquid/gas bubbles, foreign crystals or healing cracks. These inclusions are not necessarily flaws, but give evidence to the genuineness of the stone. Some gem experts refer to such inclusions as "jardin" (French: garden). All emeralds are brittle and sensitive to pressure.
