The ruby is one of the most expensive gemstones.
Rubies vary in color from pink to pinkish-red. The most desired color is "pigeon's blood", a pure red with a hint of blue. The ruby's intense color holds up well under all lighting conditions. When cut, the luster of the ruby is similar to a diamond.
Inclusions are common and are not indicative of inferior quality. Inclusions give evidence of the natural stone to one that is synthetic. Large rubies are more rare than diamonds of comparable size.
