Men's Wedding Band Description

This elegant men’s wedding ring is made of mokume gane acid etched and oxidized, and it is accented with three flush set princess cut diamonds. It was created for a client from Brandon, MS, who reached out to us online to learn more about our custom design process and to share her ideas about the kind of ring she wanted for her fiancee. We then showed her some mock-ups of different diamond setting styles and spacing, and eventually she settled on the combination seen here. Design Your Own Wedding Ring

Mokume Gane

This ring is made of a mix of 14k rose gold, palladium, and sterling silver. In order to create the lovely organic patterns it contains, these three metals were layered together and then forged using a technique known as mokume gane. The ring was then oxidized and acid etched to intensify the contrast between the metals and to highlight certain elements of the pattern.

The mokume gane technique dates back several hundred years, and it was first used to make handles and sheathes for samurai swords in Japan. Because of the nature of the process, no two mokume pieces will ever turn out exactly the same, so using this as either an accent or as the body of your ring ensures a truly one-of-a-kind piece. Flush Set Diamonds

The client wanted to include a few diamonds in this ring, but she didn’t want them to take away from the mokume pattern. We accomplished this by using princess cut diamonds, whose square shape complemented the flat band design nicely. We flush set them so that they did not disturb the surface of the ring at all, and we spaced them out in such a way that they integrated nicely into the organic mokume design.

Finishes and Metals

This piece is sandblasted to create a lovely matte finish, which gives the mokume pattern more depth, and it also creates a subtle contrast with the brilliant sparkle of the diamonds. However, if this doesn’t quite capture the look you’re imagining, there are other options for the type of finish you can use on your ring including brushed and high polish.

You can also experiment with different metal combinations until you find just the right look. And if you like these colors but prefer a different type of pattern, we can accommodate that as well. While the piece we make for you will not be identical to any of the example pieces you see, using the same technique will generally produce about an 80% pattern match to the one we are using as a model.

Details

To reduce color fading, avoid friction against any surface. Avoid wearing your mokume ring during exercise, construction work, gardening, or other abrasive activities. When owning a mokume gane ring with oxidization, avoid chlorine or other similar chemicals as they eat away the patina.
