Sapphire Engagement Ring
The stone at the center of this ring is a round sapphire with a beautiful clear blue color that the client chose because it perfectly matched the color of her daughter’s eyes.
While diamonds are likely the first stones that come to mind when you’re thinking about engagement rings, sapphires can fill this role nicely as well. They’re nearly as hard as diamonds, with a rating of 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, which means they’re well-suited to stand up to the rigors of daily wear. And they occur naturally in many different shades, which allows you to add a favorite or significant color to your ring.
Diamond Accents
Accenting the center sapphire are two rows of bright cut set diamonds that line the wrapped split strands of the shank as it reaches up to form the main setting. These diamonds contrast beautifully with the brilliant blue of the sapphire, and they also provide a nice sparkle all their own.
Shank Design
The lower shank strand carrying diamonds separates off and wraps underneath the center setting, but the top one continues up and creates the bezel setting surrounding the sapphire. Although the diamonds end just as the setting begins, metal beading continues almost all the way around the stone, which creates a nice halo effect and also unites both parts of the design.
Our client decided to create her wedding band at the same time as this engagement ring, and that allowed us to make sure the contours of both rings matched exactly. That was particularly important in this case, as the asymmetric curvature of the engagement ring was mirrored by the wedding band to make for a truly stunning set.
