Getting Started & Appointments
Do I need an appointment, or do you accept walk-ins?
Walk-ins are welcome when availability allows. Appointments are recommended so we can reserve time with a designer and prepare options for you.
What should I bring to my consultation?
Bring inspiration photos (screenshots or a Pinterest board), any preferences on metal and gemstone, and a comfortable budget range. If you have heirloom jewelry or stones you’d like to use, bring those too.
How does the process work if I live out of state?
We work with clients nationwide. You’ll have a private online project space for messages, inspiration, CAD renders, and approvals. We can ship fully insured with signature required, or coordinate in-store pickup if you’ll be visiting.
Do you work with clients internationally?
Yes. International orders require additional shipping coordination. We’ll outline the logistics before you commit.
What’s the difference between your Seattle and Bellevue locations?
Both locations offer the Joseph Jewelry experience and design support. The best location depends on your schedule and the team availability—book where it’s most convenient, and we’ll take excellent care of you.
Is parking available at your showrooms?
Yes.
• Bellevue: We have a dedicated parking lot, plus easy street parking nearby.
• Seattle: The closest parking is Republic Parking on Union & University St between 4th Ave and 3rd Ave.
Custom Design Process
How does the custom jewelry design process work?
You share ideas and budget, we refine the design together, then create a 3D CAD model for your approval. After the design is approved, we move into production and craft the piece in-house.
Is custom jewelry more expensive than ready-made jewelry?
Not necessarily. Custom pricing depends on materials and complexity, and we can usually tailor options to match your budget and priorities. Custom is often about getting exactly what you want—not paying extra for the sake of “custom.”
Do you charge extra for custom design?
There is no added fee simply for choosing custom design. Pricing depends on the materials, stone(s), and the complexity of the work required to create your piece.
What is the price range for custom design?
Custom design ranges widely because it’s driven by metal choice, gemstones, and design details. If you share your budget and style goals, we’ll recommend a design path that fits and provide a clear quote before production begins.
How many CAD design revisions are included?
We include a reasonable number of revisions so your design feels perfect. For major redesigns or multiple concept directions, we’ll always discuss scope clearly so there are no surprises.
Can I see a wax or 3D print before production?
Yes, especially for complex designs or when you want to confirm proportions in person. Availability depends on the design, and we’ll confirm what’s best for your project.
Who owns the CAD/design if I don’t move forward?
Our CAD models and design work are intellectual property of Joseph Jewelry. We may use cad models and images for marketing purposes.
Can you recreate or customize a ring I saw online or on Pinterest?
We can use inspiration as a starting point, then create an original design that reflects your preferences and fits your stone and lifestyle. Exact replicas aren’t always possible or appropriate, but we can achieve the look and feel you love.
Can you reuse my gold or heirloom gemstones?
In many cases, yes. We’ll evaluate your metal and stones for suitability, durability, and design compatibility. If reuse isn’t advisable, we can still incorporate sentimental elements in other meaningful ways.
Can I combine multiple inspiration ideas into one design?
Absolutely. That’s where custom shines—blending the features you love into a cohesive, wearable design.
Timelines & Production
How long does it take to design and create custom jewelry?
Timelines vary by complexity, but a common range is several weeks from design start to completion. We’ll confirm an estimated schedule up front and keep you updated at each milestone.
What is the typical timeline from start to finish?
Most projects follow a simple flow: consultation → CAD design → approvals → production → final finishing and quality check. If you have a deadline, we’ll plan around it from day one.
Can you rush a custom jewelry order?
Sometimes, yes—depending on design complexity, stone availability, and current production schedule. If you have a deadline (proposal, travel, wedding), tell us right away and we’ll offer the fastest realistic options.
What happens if I need a ring by a specific date?
Let us know the date and why it matters. We’ll propose a design and production plan that fits your timeline—sometimes that means simplifying details, choosing readily available stones, or using a temporary proposal setting.
When is final design approval required before production?
Production begins after you approve the final design details. We’ll confirm the “approval milestone” clearly so you know when changes are still easy versus when the piece is entering irreversible steps.
Are timelines affected by holidays or peak seasons?
Yes. Proposal season and major holidays can fill schedules quickly. If you’re planning around a holiday, book early so you have the widest design options and the least stress.
Diamonds & Gemstones
How do I choose the right diamond?
Start with shape and budget, then prioritize cut quality for sparkle. We’ll help you balance the 4 C’s so your diamond looks beautiful in real life—not just on paper.
What are the 4 C’s and which matter most?
The 4 C’s are cut, color, clarity, and carat. For most clients, cut has the biggest impact on brilliance, while color and clarity can often be optimized to maximize size and beauty within budget.
Lab-grown vs natural diamonds — what’s the difference?
Both are real diamonds with the same crystal structure and sparkle. The difference is origin: natural diamonds are mined; lab-grown diamonds are created in a controlled environment. Many clients choose based on budget, value priorities, and personal preference.
Moissanite vs diamond — how do they compare?
Moissanite is a different gemstone with a bright, lively sparkle and excellent durability. Diamonds have a distinct brilliance and are the traditional choice. We’ll show you the differences so you can choose what feels right.
What diamond certifications do you recommend (GIA, IGI, AGS)?
We work with reputable grading laboratories and can recommend the best option based on whether you’re selecting a natural or lab-grown diamond. We’ll walk you through the report so you understand what matters.
Can I bring my own diamond or gemstone?
Yes. We’ll inspect and measure your stone to confirm it’s suitable for the design and setting style. If you’re shipping a stone, contact us first so we can share secure packing and shipping guidance.
Do you use treated gemstones?
Some gemstones are commonly treated (for example, heat-treated sapphires). If a stone is treated, we’ll disclose it and explain what it means for care, durability, and value.
Can you source specific colors, shapes, or origins (e.g., Montana sapphires)?
Yes. Tell us your preferences (color tone, size, shape, origin) and we’ll source options that fit your design and budget.
Do you offer fancy color diamonds?
Yes. Fancy color diamonds can be sourced in a wide range of hues and intensities. We’ll help you prioritize the color characteristics that matter most and guide you through price drivers.
How do you ensure diamond quality and authenticity?
We source through trusted partners and rely on grading documentation where appropriate. We also evaluate stones in person and match them to designs that protect and showcase their best qualities.
Ring Sizing & Comfort
How do I find my ring size accurately?
The most accurate method is an in-person sizing. If you’re remote, we can guide you with a sizing set or practical steps to reduce sizing errors. For certain ring styles, precise sizing is especially important.
How can I find my partner’s ring size secretly?
We can suggest low-risk ways to estimate size discreetly—like borrowing a ring they already wear (and noting which finger), or using a trusted friend or family member. If needed, we can build a plan that prioritizes easy resizing where possible.
What if the ring size is wrong?
We’ll guide you through the best solution based on the ring style. Many rings can be resized, while some styles (like certain eternity bands) may require alternative approaches.
Can eternity bands be resized?
Some eternity designs cannot be resized, or resizing may be limited. We’ll confirm resize options before we make the ring so you can proceed confidently.
What if the ring spins or feels top-heavy?
We can often improve stability through design adjustments such as band shape, sizing precision, weight distribution, or subtle interior modifications.
What band width and thickness do you recommend for durability?
Durability depends on lifestyle, ring style, and stone size. We’ll recommend proportions that look elegant while maintaining strength for daily wear.
Can you design rings for active lifestyles or specific professions?
Yes. We can design for gloves, frequent handwashing, gym use, or active work environments by choosing the right profile, setting style, and protective details.
Warranty, Maintenance & Jewelry Care
What does your lifetime warranty cover?
We stand behind our workmanship and want your jewelry to last a lifetime. Coverage and maintenance requirements depend on the piece and wear conditions, and regular inspections are required to keep the warranty active.
How do I keep my warranty valid?
Bring your piece in for inspection every 6 months (or follow our instructions if you live out of state). Regular inspection helps catch normal wear before it becomes a bigger issue.
What happens if I miss a required inspection?
Jewelry naturally experiences wear over time. If inspections are missed, issues can develop unnoticed and may not be covered. The simplest way to protect your piece is to keep up with scheduled inspections.
How often should my ring be inspected?
Every 6 months is a great standard for most engagement rings, especially those with pavé or delicate details. If you’re very active with your hands, we may recommend more frequent checks.
Do you offer complimentary cleanings and inspections?
We’re happy to clean and inspect your jewelry during your scheduled visits. For certain services or repairs, we’ll confirm any costs in advance.
What is considered normal wear and tear?
Normal wear includes gradual metal thinning, minor scratches, and general maintenance needs over time. We’ll explain what we see during inspection and what we recommend to keep your ring secure and looking its best.
What happens if a small diamond falls out?
Contact us as soon as possible. We’ll inspect the setting, determine the likely cause, and recommend the best repair. Keeping up with inspections is the best way to prevent small-stone loss.
Will white gold require rhodium plating?
Many white gold alloys benefit from periodic rhodium plating to maintain a bright white finish. Frequency depends on body chemistry and wear; we’ll give you a realistic expectation based on your lifestyle.
How often should prongs be checked?
Prongs should be checked at least every 6 months, and sooner if you notice snagging, movement, or if the ring has been impacted.
Can maintenance be done outside Joseph Jewelry?
For warranty-related maintenance, we recommend having service performed by us so it’s documented and done to our standards. If you’re out of state, we’ll guide you on the safest path.
Shipping, Delivery & Proposals
Is shipping jewelry safe and insured?
Yes. We ship fully insured for the value of the item and require an adult signature on delivery. We also package discreetly so it doesn’t draw attention.
Do you offer free shipping?
We offer complimentary shipping on many orders, with faster options available for an additional fee. We’ll confirm the shipping method and timing before shipment.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International shipping is available and is typically sent via an express service. Import duties, taxes, and local regulations vary by country and are the client’s responsibility unless otherwise stated.
Can you ship discreetly for surprise proposals?
Absolutely. We can ship to an alternate address you provide and keep packaging discreet. Tell us your preferences for communication and delivery timing.
What does the package look like?
Packages are discreet and do not advertise jewelry. We prioritize privacy, security, and a smooth delivery experience.
Will the carrier leave the package without a signature?
No. For security, an adult signature is required. This protects you and ensures the item is delivered safely.
What happens if I miss the delivery?
The carrier will typically attempt redelivery or hold the package for pickup. We’ll provide tracking so you can plan for the signature requirement.
Can I choose in-store pickup instead of shipping?
Yes. Many clients prefer in-store pickup for peace of mind and a final look/fit check.
Can I propose with a temporary setting (presentation solitaire)?
Yes. You can propose with a temporary solitaire setting, then design the final ring together afterward. This is a popular option when timing is tight or you want your partner involved in the final design.
How can I keep the ring a secret from my future fiancé?
Tell us—this is common. We can coordinate discreet communication, avoid surprise calls, and ship to a secure alternate address. We’ll help you plan the process so the secret stays safe.
Pricing, Deposits & Financing
Do you require a deposit to start a custom design?
For custom projects, a deposit is required to begin CAD/design work and reserve production time. We’ll confirm the exact amount and what it applies toward before we start.
When is the remaining balance due?
In general, balance must be paid in full before production begins, and we’ll outline the schedule clearly when your order is placed.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
Yes. We offer financing through Wells Fargo, and PayPal, and we can discuss options that fit your comfort level.
Is layaway available?
Yes, an interest-free layaway option is available in many cases. Contact us and we’ll explain the terms and timeline for your specific purchase.
Are taxes included in the listed price?
Sales tax depends on delivery location and applicable laws. We’ll provide a clear total before you finalize your purchase.
Do you price-match diamonds?
We focus on quality, documentation, and service—not just numbers on a certificate. If you have a comparable diamond listing with full details, share it and we’ll tell you what is (and isn’t) truly comparable.
Can I lower the cost by reusing materials?
Sometimes. Reusing a gemstone or repurposing metal may reduce material cost, but feasibility depends on condition, alloy, and design requirements. We’ll evaluate and advise honestly.
Returns, Remakes & Upgrade Policies
Do you accept returns?
In-stock items may be returnable within a defined window if unworn and in original condition. Custom-created items are not returnable. Please review the policy details for timing, condition requirements, and any applicable fees.
Are custom jewelry pieces refundable?
Custom jewelry is not refundable. Because it is made specifically for you, we focus on approvals at each step and will work with you to ensure you love the final result.
What is your 100% satisfaction guarantee?
We require your approval at each step—design details, CAD, and final direction—so expectations are clear. If something isn’t right due to our workmanship, we will fix or remake it so you receive a piece we’re proud to deliver.
What happens if I want to change my design after approval?
Once a design is approved and production begins, changes may require additional labor, new materials, or restarting steps. If you request changes, we’ll explain options, costs, and timing before proceeding.
What qualifies as an in-stock item vs custom?
In-stock items are pre-made pieces available as shown. Custom items include any piece made specifically for you, including custom settings, custom CAD work, or material/stone selections made uniquely for your order.
Is there a restocking fee?
Some in-stock returns may be subject to a restocking fee, while exchanges may reduce or waive that fee. We’ll confirm the applicable details for your purchase.
How does your diamond upgrade program work?
Eligible natural diamonds purchased through us may be upgraded by applying the original diamond’s purchase value (excluding sales tax) toward a new diamond that meets the program requirements. Condition, documentation, and minimum upgrade thresholds apply.
Does the upgrade value include sales tax?
No. Upgrade credit typically applies to the original diamond’s purchase price excluding sales tax.
Can settings be upgraded later?
Often, yes. Many clients upgrade a center stone or change design details over time. We’ll evaluate your current ring and recommend the best way to achieve your next look safely.
How can I upgrade my diamond?
If your diamond was purchased through us and meets the upgrade requirements, we can apply its eligible value toward an upgraded stone. We’ll review your certificate, condition, and upgrade goals and walk you through the process step by step.

Do you repair jewelry not purchased from Joseph Jewelry?
Yes. We provide services such as resizing, stone tightening and replacement, prong work, engraving, and rebuilds. We’ll evaluate your piece first and confirm the scope and estimate before work begins.
Do you resize rings from other jewelers?
Often, yes. Some styles and materials have limitations, so we’ll inspect the ring and confirm what’s safely possible.
Do you offer prong re-tipping and stone replacement?
Yes. Prong work and stone replacement are common services, and we’ll recommend the safest approach based on your setting style and wear condition.
Do you solder wedding bands together?
Yes. If you want your engagement ring and wedding band to sit as one, we can discuss soldering and alignment options.
Do you offer engraving (hand or machine)?
Yes. We offer engraving options depending on the look you want (classic, script, or custom). If you have a specific style in mind, share an example and we’ll recommend the best method.
Do you provide appraisals for insurance?
Yes. Appraisals are provided with many custom pieces, and we can also provide appraisal services when needed. Contact us for details based on your item.
Can you update appraisals in the future?
Yes. If you need an updated appraisal for insurance purposes, we can evaluate your piece and provide updated documentation.
Ethics, Sourcing & Materials
Are your diamonds conflict-free?
Yes. We work with suppliers committed to conflict-free practices and industry standards, and we’re happy to discuss documentation and sourcing details for your selection.
Do you use recycled metals?
Yes. We use recycled gold, and we can discuss metal options—14k, 18k, platinum, and others—based on your design and lifestyle.
How do you source gemstones responsibly?
We source through long-term partners and prioritize reputable supply chains. We’re also happy to source lab-grown options if that aligns with your goals.
Do you offer lab-grown diamonds and gemstones?
Yes. We offer lab-grown diamonds and lab-grown gemstones across a wide range of shapes and sizes.
What environmental practices do you follow?
Using recycled precious metals and offering lab-grown options are two ways we help clients reduce environmental impact. We’ll help you choose the materials that best align with your values and budget.
