Description
The Ouroboros comes in the form of a serpent or a dragon that devours its own tail. It is one of civilization’s most ancient and widespread symbols, with different incarnations appearing in Aztec and Norse mythology, among others. It frequently serves to represent immortality and the cyclical nature of the universe.

This particular ring was inspired by a Georgian ring from around 1800, which featured a rose-cut diamond and rubies for the eyes. Our client uploaded images of her inspiration ring and similar pieces using our online system to help guide the design of her own ring. Following her instructions, we selected a pear-shaped diamond for the top of the serpent’s head, a series of white diamonds to run down the sides of the head, and round pink sapphires for the eyes. The sides of the shank are French cut to give the impression of scales.
Since the client had some old gold jewelry that had been in her family for a long time, she requested that her ring be made from gold recycled from one of these pieces. We were able to melt down an heirloom necklace of hers to have it incorporated into her engagement ring. In this way, we were able to restore one of her pieces into something that she absolutely loves.

After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
