Engagement Ring Description

This elegant engagement ring features a cushion cut diamond bezel set in white gold atop a mokume gane band with organic accents. The design was developed for a client from Renton, WA, who loved the mokume gane look and wanted to incorporate it into a unique piece built around a diamond that had been passed down through her family for generations.

Center Setting

The diamond in this ring is a 2.01 carat antique cushion cut stone, and the bezel setting it’s in frames it nicely. This stone had been in the client’s family, and she wanted to give it new life by putting it in a wonderful piece of custom jewelry that she could wear every day.

The way the bezel setting wraps around the diamond really helps to accentuate its shape, and this type of setting also creates a nice transition from the sparkling white of the diamond to the earth tones of the mokume that makes up the band.

Mokume Gane

Our client was very excited for the opportunity to include mokume gane in her ring, as its organic patterns and rich colors are right in line with her personal aesthetic. The entire band of this ring is made from one piece of mokume, which is composed of 14k palladium white gold, 14k rose gold, and sterling silver. The silver is oxidized as well to produce the rich, dark color seen throughout the band.

The technique used to make mokume gane involves layering and then forging the various types of metal to be included in a very specific way. It’s a method that was first used in Japan hundreds of years ago to make decorative handles and sheaths for samurai swords, and because of the nature of the process, no two mokume pieces will ever be exactly alike. Organic Elements

In addition to the swirling pattern of the mokume, this ring also includes organic accents on top of the band. These are in the form of a vine and leaf structure that was formed out of 14k white gold and then accented with gemstones.

Bright cut set diamonds run up the curling vine closest to the center setting on either side, and a bezel set marquise blue sapphire creates a leaf on one side of the ring, while a marquise emerald fills the same roll on the other. There are also two round peridots bezel set in the curve of the topmost vine as a final touch to this stunning and truly unique piece. Design Your Own Engagement Ring

Details

To reduce color fading, avoid friction against any surface. Avoid wearing your mokume ring during exercise, construction work, gardening, or other abrasive activities. When owning a mokume gane ring with oxidization, avoid chlorine or other similar chemicals as they eat away the patina.
