After sharing our initial outline of his concept with him online, we incorporated his feedback and produced some new models. We adjusted details here and there until he was sure we had perfectly captured his vision. We also printed up some wax models that he could come in and take a look at before giving his final approval to send things into production.
Marquise Center
The main diamond in this piece is marquise shaped and 1.01 carats. It is set vertically across the band, with the outer prongs cradling its points, and those inline with the center of the band meeting the diamond at its widest point. This arrangement helps highlight the stone’s elegant shape, and the way the multiple strands curl up to form the prongs frames the stones beautifully.
Diamond and Milgrain Accents
The shank splits in two around the three-quarter point, and these strands loop out and then back in, crossing over each other just above the mid-point on the band. They repeat this pattern with a slightly wider loop, and they finally come back together to form the side prongs of the main setting. Both strands are lined with bright cut set diamonds, which are in turn framed by milgrain beading for a lovely bit of vintage flair that goes well with the overall design of the piece. As a final touch, there is a flush set round blue diamond directly below the marquise diamond, and this faces the inside of the band. This gem holds special meaning for the client and his fiancee-to-be, and its placement allows hints of its rich blue color to shine through from below.
Filigree
Near the top of the band, two more strands split off from the main loops, curving out to meet the marquise diamond at its points and complete the main setting. This creates an opening next to the larger stone, which is filled with a delicate curling filigree. The client requested to see examples of several different filigree options before settling on this one, and its elegant curves work well with the graceful lines found in the rest of the piece.
