There is only one gemstone in this ring, making it a solitaire design. That’s a traditional choice for an engagement ring, but this piece is certainly unique as well, while still keeping with that classic style. Solitaire Engagement Rings
The stone is a round brilliant cut diamond that the clients provided, along with a slightly larger diamond for use in the matching men’s ring. The diamond is bezel set in 14k rose gold, and this nicely complements the mokume section, as it includes some rose gold as well. Matching Wedding Sets
Mokume Gane
The band itself is made from a lovely mokume gane, with a combination of 14k palladium white gold, 14k rose gold, and sterling silver. The elegant organic patterns you see swirling across the band are the result of the way the metals were forged together, and the technique used was developed in Japan several hundred years ago. Both the men’s and women’s rings in this set were made from the same kind of mokume, but because of the nature of the forging process, no two mokume pieces will ever be exactly the same. They do have very similar patterns, though, adding a beautiful connection between the two pieces without making them the same.
Contrasting Finishes
The mokume in this ring was oxidized to darken the silver sections, and then brushed for a nice matte finish. The bezel setting, however, received a high polish finish, adding another subtle layer of contrast to the design.
You can certainly use this combination if you like, or you could experiment with some alternative finishes as well. Sandblasting is another way to create a slightly different matte surface, and polishing the entire ring is an excellent option as well.
Details
To reduce color fading, avoid friction against any surface. Avoid wearing your mokume ring during exercise, construction work, gardening, or other abrasive activities. When owning a mokume gane ring with oxidization, avoid chlorine or other similar chemicals as they eat away the patina.
