The flowing, organic patterns that cover the surface of this ring are the result of several metals being combined using the special mokume gane forging process. The techniques used to make pieces like this were developed hundreds of years ago in Japan, and they require extensive skill and experience to execute properly.
In this particular ring, the mokume consists of 14k rose gold, 14k palladium white gold, and sterling silver. The sandblasted finish applied to the entire ring creates a grainy matte surface that helps enhance the organic overtones of the designs within the mokume, and the half round shape of the band complements the swirling nature of the pattern nicely.
