Item #102278Men's Wedding Band Description
Although distance prevented him from visiting our Bellevue, WA showroom in person, we corresponded with him both on the phone and online to iron out the details of his ring and ensure we got everything exactly the way he wanted it.
Mokume Gane
The wonderful organic patterns this ring displays are generated using a unique forging process known as mokume gane. It was first developed in Japan centuries ago to make decorative handles and sheaths for samurai swords, and it’s now a popular choice for many types of jewelry.
The technique used to create pieces like this involves layering several different types of metal together and then forging them. It requires a great deal of skill and experience to master, and our professional artisans have both of those in abundance, enabling us to provide our clients with all kinds of wonderful and unique mokume jewelry.
Metals and Finishes
The patterns and colors in a mokume piece will vary depending on the types of metals used. This ring is made from a mix of 14k palladium white gold, 14k rose gold, 14k yellow gold, and sterling silver.
Another ring fashioned from these metals and forged in the same way would have only about a 70%-80% match when it comes to the pattern, which means that any piece you get that includes this feature will be truly one-of-a-kind. And, of course, using different metal combinations and different techniques will create even more diverse and varied finished products.
Another way to adjust the appearance of a mokume piece is to include a different type of finish. For instance, this ring features a hammered finish, and we also used oxidized silver and acid etching to create the type of antique effect the client was going for.
Using a brushed or polished finish, with or without the acid etching, can help you create a different feel for your ring that better matches your personal style. And even if you’re not sure how to adjust a particular design or what type of features to include to get the look you want, our experts will guide you through the custom design process and show you examples until you’re completely comfortable with every aspect of the piece we’ll be creating for you.

Details
To reduce color fading, avoid friction against any surface. Avoid wearing your mokume ring during exercise, construction work, gardening, or other abrasive activities. When owning a mokume gane ring with oxidization, avoid chlorine or other similar chemicals as they eat away the patina.

Customizing This Design
Any Joseph Jewelry item can be customized or used as the starting point for a new custom design. The gemstones, metal, proportions, setting style, surface details, and overall profile can be adjusted to better match your preferences, style, and budget.
Every custom piece begins with a conversation about what you want to create and what matters most to you. You work one-on-one with a designer to refine the concept, review the design direction, and create a detailed 3D CAD image of the item before it is made.
After the design is approved, we can create a wax model so you can review the piece physically. This step helps you evaluate scale, proportions, shape, and overall presence before final production begins.
Once the wax model is approved, our jewelers craft the finished piece with attention to structure, finish, stone security, and long-term wear. Each adjustment is reviewed carefully so the final item feels intentional, balanced, and made specifically for you.
You do not need to have every detail figured out before starting. If you like this item but want to change the stone, metal, size, shape, width, engraving, or overall style, we can guide those decisions through the custom design process.
Quality & Craftsmanship
At Joseph Jewelry, quality begins with the structure. We follow strict design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support, setting security, and long-term durability. These details help ensure the item is substantial enough for everyday wear while still maintaining a refined appearance.
We do not design custom jewelry to be unnecessarily thin or fragile. If a setting, band, gallery, or accent detail needs more support, we address it before production begins. The goal is to protect the stones, preserve the shape of the ring, and create a piece that can be worn confidently over time.
Gemstone selection is also part of our quality process. We help choose the center stone, side stones, and melee diamonds used in each ring, reviewing them for cut, color, clarity, consistency, and how well they fit the design. Even when a ring is designed around a specific budget, we maintain careful standards for the materials and craftsmanship that determine the quality of the finished piece.
Before completion, each custom piece is reviewed for proportion, comfort, stone security, finishing, and long-term wear.
Care & Warranty
All Joseph Jewelry custom pieces are supported by our lifetime warranty. We also provide long-term care, including complimentary cleaning and regular inspection, so your jewelry can be maintained properly over time.
Routine inspection is especially valuable for pieces worn every day. It allows the setting, stones, and overall structure to be checked as the jewelry is worn.
