This elegant wedding band features an organic mokume gane pattern, accented with oxidized and brushed finishes. It was created for a client from Portland, OR, who found a ring she liked in our Bellevue, WA showroom and wanted to customize it. Although no two mokume gane pieces will ever be exactly alike, we can make you a custom ring using the same technique as was used on this one to produce a similar pattern, and we can modify the combination of metals and many other elements to make it unique to you as well. Mokume Gane

The elegant, swirling patterns in this ring were produced through a special forging process first developed in Japan hundreds of years ago. It was initially used to make handles and sheaths for samurai swords, but it has since been adapted for use in fine jewelry as well. Due to the nature of the process, which involves combining thin sheets of several different metals in a particular way, each piece of mokume gane is unique. Mokume Jewelry

The mokume in this ring is made from a combination of 14k rose gold, 14k yellow gold, 14k palladium white gold, and sterling silver. It was also oxidized to produce the darker areas, which highlight the intricacy of the pattern. The matte surface was created by the application of a brushed finish, and this helps bring out different qualities in the metals while helping to accentuate their warm tones. Customization Options

There are several types of adjustments you can make to a ring like this when you’re looking to put your personal mark on it. Using a different combination of metals is one of these, as is choosing to go with a sandblasted or polished finish rather than brushed. You may also want to adjust the width of the ring. This one is 6mm across, but it can be made wider or narrower according to your personal preference.

To reduce color fading, avoid friction against any surface. Avoid wearing your mokume ring during exercise, construction work, gardening, or other abrasive activities. When owning a mokume gane ring with oxidization, avoid chlorine or other similar chemicals as they eat away the patina.
