Amethyst Center

At the heart of this design is a 0.88 carat cushion shaped amethyst that’s bezel set in 14k white gold. It’s oriented to hang with its rounded corners at the compass positions, and this adds a dynamic quality to the design. The arrangement of facets across the top of the stone is what qualifies it as a checkerboard cut because of the way they reflect light in an alternating pattern of dark and light.

Milgrain and Filigree

A double row of milgrain beading runs around the margin of the bezel setting, framing the amethyst nicely and tying in with the same detail on the filigree basket behind the stone. The filigree integrates triangles in a geometric pattern that also leaves plenty of space for light to reach the stone from behind.

In addition to the milgrain that outlines its general contours, the filigree is also embellished through the use of larger decorative beads on the open surfaces of the triangles and in a row running around the top of the basket. This type of beading is used on the front of the tapered bale that connects to the basket behind the top corner of the amethyst, and the bale is lined with milgrain also. Pendants
