This beautiful pendant features a white pearl carved to resemble a cracking egg, with a sterling silver hummingbird emerging from the top. It’s part of the Galatea collection we carry here at Joseph Jewelry, and it’s a wonderful example of the way the designer uses traditional materials in new and innovative ways.

Carved Pearl
The bottom portion of this pendant is composed of a 10.5mm freshwater pearl, the top of which has been carved to resemble a cracking egg. This involves grooves that extend along the sides of the pearl in jagged routes, as well as a completely removed top, producing an uneven surface.
Emerging Hummingbird
Coming up from that uneven top surface is a hummingbird fashioned from sterling silver. Its head, wings and most of its body extend beyond the pearl, rising up to meet the silver chain. The features, eyes and beak are exquisitely detailed, and the wings are spread and uplifted as if the bird is about to take flight. Pendants
The chain passes directly between these uplifted wings, allowing the pendant to connect to the chain without the distraction of a separate bale. This arrangement also orients the pendant to hang with the bird in profile, providing a clear view of all of the dynamic elements at play in the piece.
The simplicity of this design lies in the fact that there are only two materials used, but the way in which they are combined is unique and dynamic. The intricate detailing of both the bird and the egg on all sides adds to the realistic impression the piece generates.

A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
