The jade set in this ring measures 15mm by 12mm, and it’s cabochon cut means that it has a smooth, domed top with a completely flat bottom. That shape allowed us to keep the profile low while still using a rather large stone, as the setting didn’t have to accommodate the depth that a different type of cut would generate. That detail was especially significant in this case, since it was important to our client that there was enough space below the stone for a straight gold band to sit flush against this ring.
The soft yet intense green of the jade goes well with the rose gold of the setting, and it has just enough of a shine to contrast subtly with the sandblasted finish of the band. This design was built around the stone, and its minimalist nature really lets the jade stand out.
