This elegant men’s wedding ring features a mokume gane outer band with a brushed finish resting on an inner band of unplated white gold. It was created for a couple from Seattle, WA, who came to us for both his and her rings. Because they live so close, our clients came into our Bellevue, WA showroom to get the custom design process underway, and we then communicated with them online and over the phone to finalize the details of their pieces.

Mokume Gane
The beautiful organic pattern running all the way around this ring is the result of a special forging process known as mokume gane. It involves combining several different types of metals, and it takes great skill and many years of experience to master. Fortunately, our artisans have perfected the technique, which is what allows us to bring you stunning pieces like this one.
The mokume in this ring is made of 14k palladium white gold and sterling silver, metals with just enough of a difference in color to make the pattern visible without it overpowering the piece. Because of the nature of the mokume forging process, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. A ring made with the same combination of metals and using the same process as this one would produce about an 80% pattern match, which insures that any piece that incorporates mokume in any way will truly be one-of-a-kind. Comfort Fit Band
The inner band on this ring is made of 14k unplated white gold, which gives it a soft, champagne color. It’s not quite as wide as the mokume portion of the ring, so it’s not visible when the piece is being worn. But it is slightly domed on the inside to produce what is known as a comfort fit. This feature is commonly found on fine jewelry, and as its name suggests, it makes the ring that much more comfortable to wear.
A Personal Touch
Incorporating mokume into your ring is a great way to ensure it’s truly unique. But the customization doesn’t have to stop there. You can use alternate combinations of metals to create different looks, and we can blend them into different patterns as well. You may also want to work in a favorite gemstone, either on the outside or the inside of the band, as this is a nice way to make a connection between the men’s and women’s rings in a wedding set and to add a more personal touch to your piece. 3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.

- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
