This stylish men’s wedding ring features a mokume gane inlay in a 14 KT White Gold band, with a purple sapphire accent. It originated as a custom design for a client from Seattle, WA, who worked with our team both online and in person in our Bellevue, WA showroom to ensure every detail was exactly to his liking.

Mokume Gane
The mokume gane portion of this ring is made from a combination of 14k white gold and sterling silver. It has an oxidized matte finish that contrasts nicely with the high polish of the 14 KT White Gold band its set in, and the way the inlay sits slightly below the surface of the main portion of the band helps to enhance this contrast as well.
Mokume is a popular choice for men’s wedding rings in particular, as it offers a nice way to include some color and complexity to the design without using gemstones. Creating this type of jewelry requires the mastery of a complex forging technique that was originally developed in Japan hundreds of years ago for use in samurai swords.
Fortunately, our artisans have just the combination of skills and experience required to execute a design like this to perfection. And because of the special way mokume is forged, no two pieces will have exactly the same pattern.
Purple Sapphire
A slight break in the mokume band makes space for the single gemstone included in this ring, a princess cut purple sapphire. The stone is flush set in order to keep the profile of the ring low and also to prevent it from overshadowing the other design elements of the piece. The client wanted it included to help tie his ring in with those of his fiancee, but he didn’t want it to become the main centerpiece of the design, which is why we placed and framed it as we did.

If you like the general outline of this ring but want to make some changes so it better represents your unique relationship, our team is here to help. Even a few minor adjustments can really affect the feel of a piece, and we’ll work with you to find the right combination to get the look you’re going for.
The mokume gane section in particular offers plenty of opportunity for customization, as you can choose from a variety of different metal combinations to introduce different colors and patterns into the piece. You can also choose to go with a different metal for the main portion of the ring, and you can add custom engraving on all or part of the band.
Trying out different finish combinations is another great way to subtly but substantially change the style of the ring. And you can also include your fiancee’s birthstone or another gemstone of significance in place of the purple sapphire for an even more intimate touch.

3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.

- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
