This stunning pendant features diamonds, pink tourmaline, citrine, emeralds, and rubies, all set amongst the branches of a tree shape made of platinum. It was created for a client from Kirkland, WA, who wanted it as a special gift for his wife to celebrate the birth of their youngest child. Pendant Design
The client initially came to us with the thought of having a leaf-shaped pendant made, although he was unsure about the exact outline he wanted. After discussing his ideas with him, we developed a sketch that could be viewed as either a tree or a leaf, and he fell in love with this layout.
The entire piece is approximately two inches high, which was an important detail for the client as well, since he didn’t want it to end up being too large. The bale connects to the pendant through a carefully placed and structured opening in the top of the tree, and this allows the piece to hang properly while not distorting the natural shape at all. Gemstones
In each grouping of gemstones, there is one slightly larger stone that is positioned to stand out subtly from the rest. The exception to this is the citrine, of which there are two larger stones of approximately the same size, since there are two people in the client’s family who have citrine as their birthstone.
All of the gemstones in this piece are round, and they’re tension set between the branching arms of the tree, creating a truly organic look. The smaller stones grouped around the larger also vary slightly in size, and each color is clustered together in a discreet pocket. This was a slight change from our original stone placement, which had several of the colors overlapping slightly. But the client preferred the clean separation, and so that was the arrangement we used in the finished piece.
