Blue Topaz Center
The only gemstone in this piece is a 1.05 carat cushion shaped blue topaz, and it’s held securely in a bezel setting. The stone is positioned with its rounded corners at the compass positions, giving it a vaguely star-like quality and bringing a dynamic balance to the design.
The arrangement of facets across the top of the topaz adds to the dramatic presentation, as it creates an alternating pattern of dark and light spaces that changes depending on the direction the stone is viewed from. This adds another dimension to the design, as does the contrast between the scintillating blue of the stone and the brilliant silvery shine of the metal.
Filigree Basket and Milgrain Accents
Behind the stone, a filigree basket provides protection and a hint of vintage flair, while also ensuring that plenty of light can reach the topaz. The basket is composed of geometric shapes, and the larger spaces are filled with decorative beading. Delicate milgrain also lines the filigree, and a double row of it runs around the top of the bezel setting holding the topaz, creating a framing effect and reinforcing the vintage overtones of the design. After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
