Description
This beautiful pendant centers on a pear shaped diamond that forms the body of a butterfly, whose wings extend out from the center to meet the chain. It was created for a client from Bellevue, WA, who found a piece he liked in our showroom and wanted to customize it as a special gift for his fiancee.

After learning about the ways he hoped to adjust the inspiration piece, we created some CAD models for him to review, and we shared them with him online. He was happy with what we came up with, and once he’d reconfirmed the final dimensions of the pendant, we moved his project into production. Design Your Own Jewelry
Center Diamond
The body of the butterfly in this piece is represented by a 1.01 carat pear shaped diamond set with the wider end downward, which works nicely with the shape of the wings to give the piece a satisfying balance.
Ruby and Sapphire Accents
The eyes of the butterfly are formed by round colored gemstones, with the one on the right a ruby and the one on the left a blue sapphire. These stones held special meaning for the client and his fiancee, and working them into the design this way helped make the pendant even more special and unique.
Both smaller gemstones are bezel set as well, and they connect to the main setting through gently curved pieces of metal that extend up from the top, near where the larger diamond comes to a point. The graceful nature of this piece comes from the way the gemstones are seamlessly integrated into the design, and the use of a diamond in the center brings decidedly romantic overtones to the pendant as well.

Design and estimate

3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
