Amethyst Pendant
The centerpiece of this design is a 1.58 carat round checkerboard cut amethyst, and it’s displayed beautifully in a martini prong setting. Behind the stone, a basic basket provides protection and an attachment place for the bale. The bale attaches directly behind the top prong, while the other two prongs are evenly spaced on either side of the lower portion of the stone, bringing a nice balance to the piece overall. Pendants
Stone and Metal Options
If you’re thinking of customizing a design like this, you may want to begin by choosing a gemstone with special significance for you to replace the amethyst. That allows you to imbue the piece with greater personal meaning while still maintaining the overall framework of the design.
Sapphires are a particularly popular choice for this type of piece because they come in a wide range of colors and they are extremely hard, giving them a resilience that allows them to hold up well to everyday wear. Depending on the stone you choose, you may also want to select a different type of metal, or you can switch to a different shape of stone such as an oval or pear.

Customize
Use this design as a starting point for a custom piece.
Discuss the stones, metal, proportions, setting and finish with a designer, online or in our Seattle and Bellevue showrooms. You can bring reference photographs or your own stone for us to assess.
Design and estimate
The initial design and estimate are free, with no obligation. Your designer discusses the materials, changes and budget with you before you commit.
3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.
