This dazzling pendant features a pear shaped blue sapphire and a bezel set round diamond above it. It was created for a client from Sammamish, WA, who came into our Bellevue, WA showroom personally to get the custom design process underway. After discussing their style and feature preferences with them, our team put together a CAD model of the piece we proposed to make, and they quickly approved it to move into production. Sapphire and Diamond
The main focus of this design is the large 9.80 carats pear shaped blue sapphire at the bottom. The stone is positioned with its corner end up, leaving the wider bottom portion to hang down lowest and balance the design.
Five prongs cradle this gorgeous stone, and the top prong attaches to a metal link that joins the sapphire to the bezel setting above which holds a 1.01 carat round brilliant cut diamond. The dazzling white of the smaller stone adds another layer of contrast to the piece, and it centers the sapphire nicely.
Pendant Design
The bezel setting connects directly to the chain at points in the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions on the side. This keeps the pendant from moving freely on the chain, helping to maintain it in the proper position at all times when worn. A simple basket protects the back of the sapphire as well, and this is open enough to allow plenty of light, helping to maximize the wonderful shine of the larger stone. Pendants
Customization Options
There are may ways you can go about customizing a piece like this. Using a different color or shape for the sapphire at the bottom is a good place to start. Sapphires come in many different shades, and this gives you the opportunity to work in a favorite or otherwise significant color. You may also decide to go with all diamonds, or you might want to switch the positions of the stones, with a large white diamond at the bottom and a smaller round sapphire at the top.
Other possibilities include using a different type of metal, mixing up the setting combinations, and adding some milgrain detailing around the bezel setting to bring some vintage flair to the design. No matter what you choose, though, our team will work closely with you throughout the custom design process to ensure you come away with exactly the piece you’d been envisioning.

Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.

Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.

- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.

- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
