Although they didn’t visit our Bellevue, WA showroom personally, we used the online workroom we set up for the project to manage communications between the clients and our team. This enabled us to ensure that every detail was just right, and they were very happy with the finished products they received.
Mokume Gane
The lovely organic patterns that swirl across this band are the result of a specialized forging technique known as mokume gane. It was developed in Japan several hundred years ago, and its original use was in the production of decorative handles and sheaths for samurai swords.
To make a ring like this, our artisans layer thin sheets of the desired metals together and then combine them in a particular way. The specific technique used will impact the type of pattern that develops, although the nature of the process ensures that no two mokume gane pieces will ever be exactly alike. Mokume Jewelry
Band Design
The band itself is flat and 3.5mm wide. It maintains these dimensions all the way around, providing a clear, uninhibited surface on which to display the beauty of the mokume pattern. The men’s ring we made for this couple was similar but quite a bit wider, and that’s one of the elements you can experiment with as you move through the custom design process. Matching Wedding Sets
Finish and Metal Options
This ring is sandblasted, and it also features black antiquing and acid etching to highlight the intricacy of the patterns. The mokume is made from a combination of 14k rose gold, 14k palladium white gold and sterling silver, although other combinations are possible as well. Generally, mokume pieces include two or three metals, and your personal tastes will go a long way towards determining which combination is right for you.
If you’re looking to customize this ring, you might try a brushed or polished finish, or you could omit the black antiquing and etching to create a softer, smoother look. No matter what you choose, though, our experts will ensure that the piece we finally make is exactly what you’re looking for in every way, and we’ll modify our models as many times as necessary to accomplish this.

To reduce color fading, avoid friction against any surface. Avoid wearing your mokume ring during exercise, construction work, gardening, or other abrasive activities. When owning a mokume gane ring with oxidization, avoid chlorine or other similar chemicals as they eat away the patina.
