After picking out the types of features he wanted his piece to have, the client collaborated with our staff online to give final approval of the design we came up with. He made several adjustments to the initial models, and once we incorporated his feedback into new images, he gave us the green light to move the ring into production.
Center Diamond
The diamond at the center of this piece is just slightly over one carat, and its smooth oval shape allows it to balance nicely atop the split shank. The prong setting holding it in place leaves a clear view of the entire stone from the sides, a display that really lets the diamond’s natural beauty shine through. Diamond Engagement Rings
The prongs are also accented with bright cut set diamonds lined with milgrain, and this detail continues down all sides of the criss-cross strands of the split shank that come up to form the main setting. The diamond accents add wonderful sparkle to the piece, and the type of setting used, coupled with the milgrain border, really gives the ring a nice vintage flair.
Shank Design
The shank itself splits at about the half-way point, and the two sections move outward a bit before coming in to cross over each other as they move up into the prongs holding the main diamond. Just before this crossover, the lower portion of each strand separates again, running straight across to the opposite side of the main setting, where it moves up to join the crossed-over strand on that side to form another prong.
This twisting and crossing brings a wonderful fluidity to the ring, and it also creates a perfect frame for the center diamond, particularly when the ring is viewed straight on from the top. Moving down from the spot where the shank splits, the band continues to taper, making it a comfortable width as it reaches the bottom.
A Unique Touch
The client asked for our advice on how to work the letter Z into the piece to help make it more unique. After discussing a few options, we settled on the recessed script letter that you can see on both sides of the shank just below where the split begins. This type of detail is a great way to include something of personal significance in your piece, and our professional artisans can achieve just about any look you’re going for.
