This stunning engagement ring features an oval blue sapphire center set in a stylized split shank setting with bright cut set diamonds down the sides. It was created for a client from Seattle, WA, who wanted to incorporate certain custom elements into their engagement ring, so they worked both online and in person to bring the design together. In our collaboration, we started with a design that the client liked, and then our designer created a few different mockups to incorporate the elements they wanted. After a few edits back and forth, the unique design you see here with a whale tail on the profile came to life.
Blue Sapphire Center
The center of this ring is a beautiful 2.14 carat sapphire. It is a rounded oval shape and the color is violet blue. Sapphire is a great gemstone choice for an engagement ring because of its hardness for daily wear: it rates as a 9 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, where diamond rates as a 10. Split Shank
The original design for this ring featured an oval diamond and bright cut set split shank, as well. The two strands actually stay bonded together through the majority of the ring, splitting only in the top quarter of the ring. The strands split sharply away and after reaching an upper cathedral point, turn back to meet at a "V", and end up forming a closed shape like a whale tail. One of a Kind Engagement Rings

Design and estimate

3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
