This beautiful engagement ring features a round brilliant cut diamond in a four prong setting atop an ornate yellow gold shank. It was originally designed for a client from San Francisco, CA, who came to us with a clear idea of what types of features he wanted his fiancee’s ring to include. We presented him with a custom design, and after a few minor adjustments, he gave his approval for the project to move forward into production.

Diamond Solitaire
A diamond solitaire engagement ring is a classical and timeless choice. The stone used in this ring is a beautiful round brilliant cut diamond sitting in a four prong setting that rises up right from the middle of the hand-engraved yellow gold band. The contrast between the warmth of the yellow gold and the sparkling white of the gem helps the diamond stand out even more, making for quite an eye-catching piece.

Relief Engraving
The relief engraving that covers the shank of the ring depicts vines, starfish, and two honu turtles. The turtles are tucked up right below the center setting, a placement that demonstrates their special significance for the client and his fiancee. Diamond Engagement Rings
It was especially important to the client to include the turtles in such a way that they didn’t stand out too much but were still clearly visible and distinguishable from the rest of the engraving, and he was very happy with the arrangement we came up with.
Relief engraving is considered a bit fancier and more elegant than standard engraving. It is also much more time consuming, as it requires that the pattern be left and the background carved away. Fortunately, our expert artisans have the requisite knowledge and skill to execute this technique with the utmost precision, as you can see from this elegant piece.
Elements of Significance
There are many ways to put your personal mark on a ring. For this client, the honu turtles represented something very special, and we helped him find the right way to include them in his design. Working a specific image or pattern into the engraving on your piece is one great way to add some special significance, but it’s not the only way.
Another option could be placing hidden gemstones with your birthstones on the inside of the band as a special touch only you two will know about. Or you can have your initials or a special message engraved on either the inside or the outside of the ring. A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.

- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
