Center Morganite
At the top of this ring is a 2.20 carat cushion checkerboard cut morganite with a delicate rosy color. It is referred to as a checkerboard cut because of the way the arrangement of the facets cause a checkerboard pattern to appear when you view the stone from the top. It’s tension set between two bars of palladium, and the contrast between the white of the metal and the pink of the stone really helps the beauty of the morganite to shine through.
Morganite is not a stone commonly used in engagement rings, so its inclusion here immediately helps to set this piece apart. It brings with it overtones of love, trust, and strength, however, all of which make it a fitting choice for this type of ring.
Peek-a-boo Diamonds
One thing the client knew that he wanted included in his ring were peek-a-boo diamonds, which we worked into the fronts of the ring below the center setting. These are round brilliant cut stones, and their rose gold bezel settings contrast nicely with their beautiful white color to really help them stand out.
Two-tone Band
The main portion of this ring’s band is made from 14k rose gold, but palladium plays a prominent role as well. It forms the setting for the center morganite, and it also makes up the
lovely scroll filigree that fills the space on the fronts of the ring under the shank shoulders.
And adding a final dimension to the design, there is a palladium inlay with a hammered finish running along the top of the shoulders of the shank. This adds a nice texture to the piece, and it contrasts dramatically with the polished finish on the rest of the ring. It also mirrors the checkerboard pattern in the morganite, which helps to unify the design and create a satisfying balance overall.
