Description
This stunning engagement ring features an emerald cut diamond in a split prong setting atop a rounded yellow gold shank. It was created for a client from Hope Mills, NC, who reached out to us online to share her inspiration for the type of ring she wanted to make. She worked closely with our design team throughout the process, making minor adjustments based on our CAD proofs and wax models before giving her final approval to move things into production. Diamond Solitaire
The centerpiece of this ring is a 0.93 carat emerald cut diamond that’s cradled in an east-west split prong setting made of 14k yellow gold. The client selected this particular stone based on options we provided, and she was able to view photos of it through the online workroom we set up to manage her order.
The east-west setting is the arrangement she knew she wanted from the beginning, as it was part of the design of the inspiration piece she shared with us. Its somewhat unconventional style provides a nice counterpoint to the traditional solitaire design of the piece, making this an excellent example of the way diverse elements can be combined to produce a unique look. Band Design
Some of the modifications the client requested as we moved through the customization process involved the shape and width of the band. She wanted to make sure that the band was wide enough to feel substantial, but not so wide that it overwhelmed the diamond. Our original models also featured a band with straight sides, and the client requested that it be fully domed on top instead. Unique Engagement Rings
Customization Options
Some ways to customize a piece like this include changing the cut of the stone used, switching to a different type of setting, and using another kind of gemstone all together. For instance, sapphires are a popular alternative to diamonds in engagement rings, and they come in a wide range of colors. Depending on the overall style you want the piece to have, you could experiment with a bezel setting, or you could go with a simple single prong look.

Customize
Use this design as a starting point for a custom piece.
Discuss the stones, metal, proportions, setting and finish with a designer, online or in our Seattle and Bellevue showrooms. You can bring reference photographs or your own stone for us to assess.
Design and estimate
The initial design and estimate are free, with no obligation. Your designer discusses the materials, changes and budget with you before you commit.
3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.

- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.
