The shapes and details that this design incorporates give it a decidedly elegant look with a vintage flair, making it an excellent choice if you’re looking for an alternative to the traditional diamond solitaire engagement ring. Center Sapphire

The stone at the heart of this piece is a 5.5 carat yellow sapphire, cushion cut and anchored by a four prong setting atop a cathedral shank. The sapphire represents faithfulness, purity, and reliability, all of which make is a fitting choice for an engagement ring. The client chose a yellow stone in this case, but you can easily substitute a different colored sapphire to make the design better suit your tastes.

Halo Setting

Surrounding the center stone is a halo of split prong set diamonds that both add their own sparkle to the piece and help to enrich the color of the sapphire. This type of halo setting also gives you a way to incorporate the more traditional diamonds into your engagement ring without making them the centerpiece.

Choosing Materials

While getting just the right look for your custom engagement ring is important, you also have to take into account the properties of the materials used. In this particular case, the client was concerned about the ring being resilient enough to stand up to the rigors of his fiancee’s active lifestyle.

Keeping that in mind, our designers helped him make the appropriate choices, like selecting platinum for the ring itself. This is the strongest of the metal options, and using it ensured that the large center stone would be kept more secure in place. Similarly, sapphires and diamonds are very hard stones, making them appropriate choices for a ring that has to look gorgeous while still holding up to the rigors of everyday wear.

No matter what type of ring you want to create or what your specific concerns might be, our designers will bring their extensive knowledge to the project to ensure we produce exactly the piece you’ve been dreaming of.

Customize

Use this design as a starting point for a custom piece.

Discuss the stones, metal, proportions, setting and finish with a designer, online or in our Seattle and Bellevue showrooms. You can bring reference photographs or your own stone for us to assess.

  1. Design and estimate

The initial design and estimate are free, with no obligation. Your designer discusses the materials, changes and budget with you before you commit.

  2. 3D design review

After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.

  3. Physical model

A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.

  4. Approval and production

The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
