He initiated the custom design process by visiting our Bellevue, WA showroom in person to discuss his vision, and after that meeting, we put together some proofs in CAD of the piece as we proposed to make it. He quickly approved these, and so we moved his ring directly into production.
Sapphire Center
The centerpiece of this ring is a 2.02 carat emerald cut blue sapphire. It’s held in place by four talon prongs that curl up over its clipped corners, helping to accentuate the lovely lines of the cut. The prongs are made of 14k palladium white gold, and the contrast this creates with the rich blue of the sapphire only helps to intensify the stone’s stunning beauty. Blue Sapphire Engagement Rings
Diamond Accents
Split prong set diamonds run down the outside of each prong, and they also line the bar in the gallery of the main setting. These tie in nicely with the split prong set diamond accents on the shank shoulders, which continue all the way down to the mid-point on each side of the band. All together, there are 76 accent diamonds in this piece, and they combine to total 0.26 carats.
Custom Design Process
The client’s inspiration piece had an oval diamond in the center, and the ring itself was made of yellow gold. Although the changes the client requested really only involved these two elements, they changed the whole appearance of the piece dramatically, which is something to keep in mind as you work through the custom design process yourself.
