Mokume Gane
The flowing, organic patterns that cover the surface of this ring are the result of several metals being combined using the special mokume gane forging process. The techniques used to make pieces like this were developed hundreds of years ago in Japan, and they require extensive skill and experience to execute properly.
In this particular ring, the mokume consists of 14k rose gold, 14k palladium white gold, and sterling silver. The sandblasted finish applied to the entire ring creates a grainy matte surface that helps enhance the organic overtones of the designs within the mokume, and the half round shape of the band complements the swirling nature of the pattern nicely. Matching Wedding Sets
The engagement ring that we also made for this couple integrates a similar mokume into the band, and that shared feature creates a link between the two pieces. Although the men’s and women’s rings in this set are very different styles, the mokume enhances the beauty of each while simultaneously tying the two together. Matching Wedding Sets
If you’re interested in accomplishing something like this for your own wedding set, there are many options to consider when it comes to the types of shared features you can use. For instance, a small gemstone of the same type that’s used in the women’s rings can be flush set on either the inside or the outside of the men’s ring.
Custom hand engraving is worth looking into as well, as it can allow you to include a symbol or pattern with special significance to you as a couple, and it can be adapted to fit in the space available on each piece.
