Description
This gorgeous engagement ring features a cushion cut blue-green sapphire in the center, accented by split prong and bezel set diamonds on the platinum shank below. It was created for a client from Redmond, WA, who came into our Bellevue, WA showroom in person to get the custom design process started. He had a good idea of the type of stone he wanted in the center, and we worked through the options for complementary features until he was sure we had just the right mix. Sapphire Center
The centerpiece of this ring is a 1.65 carat cushion cut sapphire with a lovely blue-green color. The client was very specific about the shade his fiancee-to-be wanted, and so we shared some photos of the actual stone we sourced for the ring so he could approve it before we set it in the piece. Sapphires are a popular alternative to diamonds as the main gemstone in engagement rings, and they’re available in a wide variety of colors. Using a sapphire allows you to introduce a color with personal significance, and it helps add some striking contrast to your design as well.
Diamond Accents
Small round diamonds are split prong set down each shank shoulder, with 10 on each side. These extend nearly to the mid-point on the band, and they bring a glamorous flair to the piece as well as a nod to the traditional use of diamonds in engagement rings. Their perfectly round shape provides a subtle counterpoint to the softly-squared cushion cut of the sapphire and the split prong setting lends a bit of classical flair to the design. On the ring fronts directly below the center setting, a round diamond is bezel set, and this adds a lovely surprise sparkle to the piece. All together, the 22 accent diamonds in the piece total 0.13 carats, and they help highlight the lovely color of the larger sapphire at the top without overshadowing it.

3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
