(item # 102049)
This custom engagement ring was based on item #1125. The client wanted to replace the green peridot center stone of the original design with a large, royal blue sapphire. This sapphire is accented by a halo of pave set diamonds, which continue down either side of the shank. A filigree set under the halo takes on the appearance of an infinity symbol.
The royal blue sapphire is an excellent choice to go with any diamond ring. With a rating of nine on the Moh’s scale, it is second only to the diamond in terms of hardness. The stone has traditionally served as a symbol for nobility, truth, sincerity, and faithfulness, having been a favorite of the clergy and many royal circles for centuries. As recently as 1981, Britain’s Prince Charles gave a blue sapphire engagement ring to Lady Diana Spencer. This ring, which now belongs to Kate Middleton, is the most famous royal blue sapphire engagement ring in modern history.
Many people make the mistake of thinking that a sapphire is necessarily blue. This is an easy mistake to make, as gem and jewelry professionals will often use the word “sapphire” alone when referring to a blue sapphire. However, sapphires come in many different colors, including green, yellow, pink, purple, orange, and more. Consider the many exciting possibilities of the sapphire gemstone for your own custom engagement ring, and contact us when you’re ready to get started on your own project.
