Custom Blue Sapphire Engagement Ring
Item #102304Engagement Ring Description
Sapphire Center
After initially investigating the various options for diamonds that he could use in the center of this ring, the client decided to go with this stunning blue sapphire. It’s a 1.03 carat round stone with a sparkling blue color that’s held in place by an 18k double prong setting. The contrast between the blue of the stone and the polished white gold really gives a new layer to the design, and the size and shape of the sapphire provide a good balance for the ring as a whole.
Sapphires are a good choice for everyday pieces like engagement rings thanks to their hardness, which measures 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale. This means they’re less likely to chip than stones with a lower rating like emeralds, which was another option the client was interested in. Sapphires also come in many different colors, so you can take advantage of their resistance to damage while also including a significant or favorite color in your ring.

Diamond Accents
Tucked below the center setting on each of the ring fronts is a bezel set round diamond. These stand out just enough from the white gold setting to add a bit of sparkle, and they also provide a nod to the use of diamonds as the traditional engagement ring stone. Their bezel settings are worked smoothly into the custom filigree also, and their placement over the lower tip of the diamond makes them a nice counterbalance point for the main setting.
Custom Filigree and Hand Engraving
While a lot of thought and work went into selecting the right stone to sit atop this ring, the beautiful metalwork on the band is impossible to overlook as well. One element of this is the hand-made scroll filigree that flanks the accent diamonds and fills the space formed when the shoulders of the cathedral shank rise up to meet the sapphire.
Covering most of the rest of the shank is a beautiful hand engraving lined with milgrain that our artisans complete by hand as the last step in the production process. In order to assure perfect precision and the highest possible level of detail, they perform this type of work under a bench microscope onsite in our Bellevue, WA location, and that also means that you can have just about any design or pattern you’d like included in your piece for a truly unique look.

Customizing This Design
Any Joseph Jewelry item can be customized or used as the starting point for a new custom design. The gemstones, metal, proportions, setting style, surface details, and overall profile can be adjusted to better match your preferences, style, and budget.
Every custom piece begins with a conversation about what you want to create and what matters most to you. You work one-on-one with a designer to refine the concept, review the design direction, and create a detailed 3D CAD image of the item before it is made.
After the design is approved, we can create a wax model so you can review the piece physically. This step helps you evaluate scale, proportions, shape, and overall presence before final production begins.
Once the wax model is approved, our jewelers craft the finished piece with attention to structure, finish, stone security, and long-term wear. Each adjustment is reviewed carefully so the final item feels intentional, balanced, and made specifically for you.
You do not need to have every detail figured out before starting. If you like this item but want to change the stone, metal, size, shape, width, engraving, or overall style, we can guide those decisions through the custom design process.
Quality & Craftsmanship
At Joseph Jewelry, quality begins with the structure. We follow strict design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support, setting security, and long-term durability. These details help ensure the item is substantial enough for everyday wear while still maintaining a refined appearance.
We do not design custom jewelry to be unnecessarily thin or fragile. If a setting, band, gallery, or accent detail needs more support, we address it before production begins. The goal is to protect the stones, preserve the shape of the ring, and create a piece that can be worn confidently over time.
Gemstone selection is also part of our quality process. We help choose the center stone, side stones, and melee diamonds used in each ring, reviewing them for cut, color, clarity, consistency, and how well they fit the design. Even when a ring is designed around a specific budget, we maintain careful standards for the materials and craftsmanship that determine the quality of the finished piece.
Before completion, each custom piece is reviewed for proportion, comfort, stone security, finishing, and long-term wear.
Care & Warranty
All Joseph Jewelry custom pieces are supported by our lifetime warranty. We also provide long-term care, including complimentary cleaning and regular inspection, so your jewelry can be maintained properly over time.
Routine inspection is especially valuable for pieces worn every day. It allows the setting, stones, and overall structure to be checked as the jewelry is worn.
