Mokume Gane
The swirling organic patterns you see in this piece are the result of a particular forging process called mokume gane. It was originally developed in Japan several centuries ago, and it involves a specific way of combining several different types of metals to produce a variety of patterns. Because of the nature of this process, no two pieces created using the mokume gane technique will ever come out exactly the same, but if you see something you like, we can use the same technique to create a very similar look. Metals and Finishes
The mokume in this ring is made up of 14k palladium white gold, 14k rose gold, 14k yellow gold, and sterling silver. They swirl past and around each other, and the contrasts between the colors allows all of the intricacies of the design to show through clearly. Mokume Jewelry
This effect is enhanced by the combination of finishes applied to the ring, which include acid etching and oxidation to darken the silver and create a more antique look. Finally, the ring is brushed to give it a soft matte surface that complements the colors and movement of the pattern nicely.

3D design review
After you accept the estimate and make a down payment, we create a 3D CAD model and rendered views. Revisions within the initial design parameters are included; changes to materials or their amounts are re-estimated.
Physical model
A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

Coverage conditions
For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
