He began the process by sending us the description from the book as well as an image of the ring as it appeared in the movies, and we worked to develop a design that stayed true to the spirit of the piece. Although he couldn’t visit our Bellevue, WA showroom personally, we utilized both high-quality CAD images and wax molds to let him examine and approve all aspects of the ring before we put it into production.
Emerald Center
The stone that sits atop this ring is a 0.37 carat Chatham emerald that’s bezel set in palladium, and the contrast of the setting with the brilliant green of the emerald helps to enhance the color of the stone. The emerald itself is marquise cut so it resembles the eye of a snake, and this works to unite the upper and lower portions of the ring.
Band Design
While the emerald is beautiful on its own, it’s the band that really sets this piece apart. It includes a split shank that’s hand engraved with scales, so that it looks like the body of the two snakes, and that crosses back and forth as it moves up towards the main setting.
At the top of the ring, the serpents’ heads frame the stone nicely, and the detail of their faces and mouths is exquisite, and that is a testament to the impressive skill of our professional artisans. The snakes are depicted, as described in the book, with one snake upholding a “crown of golden flowers” while the other devours it, and for these flowers we used yellow gold so that they would really stand out.
The touch of color that the yellow gold brings to the piece helps to clearly mark off the different parts of the design. It may seem like a small detail, but those are what can make all the difference in a ring like this.
