Band Design and Contrasting Finishes
This band is 8mm wide, and it’s made of rose tungsten. The warm tones of the metal bring a classical feel to the piece, and this element is complemented nicely by the use of contrasting finishes on the separate parts of the ring, which bring out different aspects of the metal.
The largest section of the top surface of the ring is flat and smooth, with a brushed finish that creates a soft matte surface. On either side of this, narrow rails sit a step down from the center section, and these are polished to a high shine. The use of the different finishes helps to accentuate the separation of these two sections, and this is just one area of the design that you can modify as part of the custom design process. If you’re interested in customizing a ring like this, you may want to begin by changing the width of the band to whatever’s most comfortable for you. The normal range for a men’s wedding ring is from 6mm to 9mm, but you can choose to go above or below this as well. Any change to the width of the band will necessarily impact the overall appearance of the piece, and you can keep the proportional relationship of the two main sections of the design, of you can modify this to suit your tastes as well.
Using a different combination of finishes on the sections of the ring is another avenue to explore. For instance, you may decide to switch the placement of the brushed and polished finishes used in this piece. Or you might want to go with only one finish for the whole band to produce a more subtle design effect.

A full-size wax model can be made to review scale, shape and proportions before production. It can be viewed in a showroom or shipped to you.
Approval and production
The design is approved before production begins. Your designer confirms the schedule, and our jewelers make, set and finish the piece.
Quality
Our custom jewelry follows design and construction standards for metal thickness, weight, stone support and setting security.
- Structure and support
- The setting must have enough metal to support the stones and hold its shape through everyday wear. If an area needs more support, we address it before production.
- Diamond and gemstone selection
- We help you choose stones for your custom design, reviewing cut, color, clarity, consistency and fit. Your budget guides these choices; our standards for materials and craftsmanship remain the same.
- Final inspection
- Before completion, we review each custom piece for proportion, comfort, stone security and finish.

For Joseph Jewelry custom pieces, coverage begins with your signature. To keep it active, Joseph Jewelry must inspect and sign for your piece every six months and perform recommended repairs and maintenance.
Repairs due to normal wear and tear are the owner's responsibility. Damage, abuse or alterations can void coverage. Customers outside Washington pay shipping both ways for inspections or repairs, plus applicable duty or customs fees.
