This piece was a gift for her granddaughter, who had initially requested pearl and diamond as the gemstones to be used. After seeing the CAD model of the pendant with the pearl in the main position, however, the client decided that the more angular emerald cut worked better in this design, and so she switched to the alexandrite as the center stone. Alexandrite and Diamond
The centerpiece of this pendant is a 1.12 carat emerald cut alexandrite, and it’s bar set near the bottom of the piece. The Alexandrite exhibits a beautiful purple color indoors, while it appears green in daylight, and this color-changing property is one of the main reasons the client chose the stone.
Just below the alexandrite, a small round diamond is bar set. It provides a lovely white sparkle that contrasts nicely with the rich color of the larger stone, and that’s complemented nicely by the shine of the metal it’s set in. Pendant Design and Customization Options
Above the alexandrite, a long, thin strip extends upward from the margin of the bar setting. This strip is nearly twice as long as the main stone, and it’s open on the sides, allowing the chain to pass directly through. That detail allows the design to maintain its integrity without the interruption a separate bale may have caused visually, and it lets the pendant move freely on the chain as well.
