At Joseph Jewelry, we have a laser to engrave text and designs on rings and other metal pieces. We can engrave almost any design you’d like, keeping in mind the size of the object to be engraved.

How does laser engraving work?
Our laser engraver is much more precise than a traditional diamond-tipped jewelry engraver. We can engrave 100% accurate designs of different sizes, down to extremely small details that no other engraver can accomplish. We’re able to adjust the depth of the laser so that we can go heavier or lighter, as well.
To engrave a phrase, names, or date, we will send you a list of our fonts. You choose the font, send us exactly what you would like engraved, and we will do it. For the inside of a ring, it is usually best to stay around 15-20 characters in length.
For a more custom engraving, you can send us what you’d like engraved, and we may create a mock-up for you to approve before we execute engraving on the actual object. We will convert the image you send us into a file compatible with our machine, and then complete several passes over the design with the laser until it is deep enough and achieves the look the client wants.
What can be laser engraved?
In the past, some designs we have engraved are wedding dates, Bible passages, symbol patterns, names, quotes, animals, music notes, fingerprints, a handwritten message, and other symbols. We can engrave almost any design.
Some objects we can put the engraving on are rings, watches, bracelets, and various small metal objects. Many of our clients request an engraving inside of their custom rings made with us. One thing to keep in mind is the laser just barely cuts through the surface of the metal. For designs that are more than just letters and cover a wider area, you may want to request adding black antique painted in the engraving to allow the design to stand out more.
What is the difference between hand engraving and laser engraving?
Hand engraving is an art form and done by an artist with many years of experience. The designs created by hand are usually artful patterns unique to the piece, and sometimes reflecting old world style. These patterns require an artist because of the complex cuts and curves that take a skilled hand to execute. Joseph Jewelry offers this service, as well.
On the other hand, laser engraving is all about precision. The design that is put into our computer program is exactly what will be engraved. The laser can accurately engrave the tiniest symbols and words.

Danny and team were fantastic to work with! My (then) boyfriend and I visited their beautiful store about a year before we ended up coming back around to using them (there was a cross-country move, a new job, and of course an engagement in between). When it came time to work with Joseph's, I was in need of a custom platinum diamond band to fit around my engagement ring that we had found elsewhere, but it required something very custom to fit up against the intricate design. I also wanted it to match my engagement ring exactly. My (now) fiance' also still wanted the unique men's band he had seen at Joseph's. Both rings ultimately exceeded both of our expectations. The men's band was customized in width and type of material to create a perfect custom fit that he absolutely loves (and can play basketball while wearing) and is super durable. My band was made to fit exactly next to my engagement ring and was customized to resemble it so closely you would be certain they were purchased together. I was beyond impressed with Danny and team's work. It was flawless. My rings now lock together and my wedding band keeps my halo engagement ring from sliding from one side to the other. They also added scrolling to one side of the ring that is simply beautiful. And they added a custom engraving on the inside of each of our bands. He literally brought an idea in my head into existence, by hand. That is an amazing skill when you think about it. I so appreciated that Danny spent over an hour with me designing the rings and patiently showing me examples of what they could do. He provided such great service, and I did not feel rushed at all in making a decision. He also communicated with me promptly via email and coordinated shipping rings back and forth to me as we no longer lived in the Seattle area. I also loved working with all of the staff there; everyone was so helpful and friendly. We both get so many compliments on our rings and I would not hesitate to come back (which now literally means flying across the country!) to Joseph's Jewelry for any other jewelry selections and any custom work.
