Negligee

neg·li·gee | ˌne-glə-ˈzhā

noun

A long necklace that usually terminates in irregular length with tassels or drops

A negligee is a special kind of necklace identified by the length of the elements at the end of it. The necklace itself typically sits irregularly low, below the collar bone, and will have items such as tassels drops, or multiple gemstones hanging below the termination. Negligee-style necklaces have been around for a number of years but were most popular in the early 20th century, during the Edwardian period. The tassels of a negligee are generally uneven in length but may be symmetrical in what they contain, whether it is gemstones, additional elements of the necklace, or other ornamentation.
