Opaque

op·aque | ō-ˈpāk

adjective

A term used to describe a stone that will not allow any light to pass through it

An object is opaque if it does not allow any light through it. By definition, to be opaque is to be the opposite of transparent or translucent, severely limiting the flow of light through an object. The term has subsequently been utilized to describe any situation in which something is not allowed to pass through something else. For example, an object can be opaque to electricity or heat, a person can be opaque in how they speak, or an object can be opaque in how it engages with another object. Opacity is used to describe the ability of light to pass through different types of gemstones, with some stones or precious gems varying significantly in how much light they allow through.
