Quartz is the name for a family of naturally occurring crystals that share similar chemical structure. These typically consist of Silica or Silicon Dioxide. The most common variety of quartz is colorless and transparent, and can also be called clear quartz, rock quartz, or may be referred to simply as quartz, though there are other forms of quartz that are not as transparent and may have color. Other common varieties of quartz include amethyst, citrine, ametrine, chalcedony, agate, onyx, jasper, tiger’s eye, prasiolite, carnelian, and many others. Many of these are at least partially transparent, but color can vary dramatically.
