Jade

jade | ˈjād

noun

An opaque, semiprecious gemstone which is usually found in shades of green, but can also be found in lavender and rose shades

Jade is a type of mineral naturally found in various parts of the world. The word Jade refers to one of two different silicates - nephrite and jadeite - and is most commonly known for its role in art and jewelry in Asia. While jade is most commonly associated with the deep green color found in much of this artwork, it can be found in almost all colors, including rose, lavender, yellow and white. Jade has also been found among artifacts of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures where it was highly prized due to its rarity. Today, nearly 70% of the world’s jadeite jade is produced in Myanmar.
