Oval Cut

ov·al cut | ˈō-vəl ˈkət

noun

A faceted, elongated stone, round at both ends

An oval cut diamond is one that has a longer stone than more traditional cuts, rounded at both ends, to create an oval shape. The process is simply to elongate a round brilliant cut diamond, which means they retain the natural brilliance of such a diamond, but with a unique shape that can be used for other purposes and to cover more of the finger in its setting. Oval cut diamonds were developed in the 1950s based on the brilliant cut method. While the shape came into prominence nearly 70 years ago, it remains highly popular because of its uniqueness and because the different shape allows a larger number of diamonds to be cut down.
