Diamond Cut

di·a·mond cut | ˈdī-(ə-)mənd kət

noun

A name sometimes used in the colored-stone trade for brilliant cut

A diamond cut refers to any of a number of styles or design guides used when shaping diamonds. This does not refer to the shape of the diamond, but does encompass the symmetry, polish and proportioning of the diamond. It is sometimes also known as brilliant cut because it directly affects the brilliance of the diamond. Poor cuts can result in diamonds being less luminous, which can impact their value and desirability. Several different types of diamond cuts have been developed based on material properties of different types of diamonds. Factors considered by diamond cutters include the size and shape of the diamond, and are influenced by centuries of tradition in the diamond trade.
