noun

Acronym for the International Gemological Institute

The International Gemological Institute is the largest diamond grader in the world, working in more different locations around the world than any other organization. IGI is renowned for its grading of diamonds and other colored gemstones but also works with exotic carvings, pearls, synthetic gemstones, including lab-grown items, simulants, and fine jewelry pieces with antique stones that may not have been previously graded. IGI offers a School of Gemology to learn more about the different grading practices used for evaluating stones of different types and quality.
