Amazonite

am·a·zon·ite | ˈa-mə-zə-ˌnīt

noun

An opaque form of feldspar

Termed “Amazon stone”, after the Amazon River, amazonite is a green tectosilicate mineral. One may find this beautiful gem in Colorado alongside clusters of smoky quartz. Amazonite captivates consumers with its exquisite shades of turquoise-green. Hues may rage from blazing sage green to light-toned hues of turquoise, oftentimes with yellow, white, or grey fragments; however, there are occasions of stones being opaque, or even translucent. Amazonite’s eye-catching elegance adds a burst of color to the wardrobe and is known to yield harmony and balance. When polished, the stone resembles finely cracked or webbed marble. It is considered a soft stone, and therefore, care should be taken when wearing, or in storing, with other minerals. Amazonite is a peculiar facet in jewelry, particularly with Native Americans.
