Articulated

ar·tic·u·lat·ed | är-ˈti-kyə-ˌlā-təd

adjective

Jewelry constructed with hinges that allow for flexibility, or other moving parts

Articulated Jewellery is the concept of two or more segments connected by a flexible joint. For instance, a pendant in the form of an alligator made with joined sections that illustrate a swimming movement is a great example of an articulated piece. Or, a caterpillar bracelet having a body made of pliable segments. However, there are a couple of other examples of articulated jewelry, one being fringe. Fringe is a column or row of articulated draping freely from the edge(s) of a piece. Additionally, fringe may be one single length, or may vary depending on the design of the piece it’s connected to. The last example of an articulated piece of jewelry that we have not discussed yet is a strap bracelet. Here, the bracelet is designed as a level strap, with a decorative clasp or buckle.
