Florentine

flor·en·tine | ˈflȯr-ən-ˌtēn

adjective

A jewelry piece that is from, or takes strong inspiration from, Florence, Italy

Florentine jewelry refers to any piece that takes its inspiration from Florence, Italy, considered a seat of the Renaissance Era, home to some of the most iconic and inspirational artists of the time. As such, Florentine can sometimes refer to jewelry from the Renaissance Era in general, whether it originates in Florence or elsewhere. A Florentine finish refers to a specific technique in which a crosshatch is engraved into the surface of a precious metal. This can be applied by hand to reduce the reflectiveness of the metal. The result is coarser lines than what might be found in a matte finished or brush finished piece.
